Well, who isn't dreaming of sandy beaches and warm water, right about now? I am going to get a little creative because I left my camera over at my cousin's house, on Christmas Eve, and haven't gone to retrieve it yet. (Lazy bones!)
So, from the archives, here is what you get. Waves!!!!!
I was propelled to write, because I am having a lovely, lazy, rainy Sunday, and I am baking bread and reading the Sunday New York Times. There was an article in there that made me chuckle, so I thought that I should let you in on it.
"Forget Gum", it says, "Walking and Using Phone Is Risky"
. In 2008, more than 1,000 pedestrians visited emergency rooms because they got distracted and tripped, fell or ran into something while using a cell phone to talk or text. That was twice the number from 2007!! The professor of city and regional planning at Ohio State says, "that is just the tip of the iceberg" (ooooh yikes!!)Examples of emergency room visits include a 16 year old boy who walked into a telephone pole and suffered a concussion; a 28 year old man who tripped and fractured a finger on the hand gripping his cellphone, and a 68 year old man who fell off the porch while talking on a cell phone, spraining a thumb and an ankle and causing dizziness.
(Something, I just noticed while writing this: these folks are all male!ha!)
You see, walking and chewing gum is a snap, the author says. He goes on to explain that talking and chewing are repetitive , well-practiced tasks that become automatic. They don't compete for resources like texting and walking do. (Enter Danger!)
The cellphone gives people a constant opportunity to pursue goals that feel more important than walking down the street.
Great quote: "An animal would never walk into a pole....survival instincts would trump other priorities.....such as keeping in touch with your girlfriend."
Anyways, don't say you weren't warned about this future pandemic.
All is good here, and I promise to soon send lovely pictures of a cubicle......my shoes....my super-top-secret identification badge, my parking spot, my view at 4:30 am, and maybe even one of my real cute outfits. hahahahahaha.
